Dr. John Kiburz is a board-eligible orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in sports medicine, who joined New Mexico Orthopaedics in 2009.  During his residency, he was proud to have served as Chief Resident at Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans, where he coordinated physician coverage for high school and collegiate athletics to be provided by he and his peers.

Dr. Kiburz is well aware that our culture places significant value on recreational activity, lifestyle and athletics.  Accordingly, he is extremely passionate about preserving or restoring the ability to participate in these activities—for his patients, for his community and for his own family.  Dr. Kiburz is especially drawn to the practice of orthopaedics because many of the lifestyle-limiting injuries encountered can be successfully treated.

In addition, Dr. Kiburz firmly believes that his fellowship training in sports medicine has equipped him with the latest techniques to provide his patients with the most advanced treatment options to get them back to their desired level of activity.  Each and every individual patient is empowered and becomes an active participant on a team, dedicated and focused on personalized goals and aspirations for resuming an active life.

Dr. Kiburz reaches out to the community through a number of volunteering efforts, such as working with clinics and hospitals that care for the less fortunate, as well as donating his time and knowledge to local youth by providing medical coverage for sporting events and day camps.  He also enjoys participating in all that the outdoors has to offer, especially marathon running, golf, football, baseball, hiking and traveling.
