Dr. Dwight Burney, III is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon at New Mexico Orthopaedics. He specializes in sports medicine, reconstructive and trauma surgery and joint injury. Dr. Burney knew from a young age that he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps in more than just name only. His father, Dr. Dwight W. Burney, Jr., was a respected orthopaedic surgeon in Omaha, Nebraska, who took great pride and satisfaction from his medical practice and passed the desire for a similar sense of fulfillment and professionalism on to his son.
Dr. Burney prides himself on approaching each problem from the perspective of the patient, including individual needs, preferences and concerns. Although he has a substantial amount of experience and knowledge, Dr. Burney prefers to convey that knowledge in the presentation of appropriate options and education to all of his patients and trusts that each individual is equipped to make the best decision regarding his or her own personal plan of care.
In his spare time, Dr. Burney enjoys snowboarding, white water rafting and expressing himself musically by listening to and performing bluegrass music.
