Fellowship-Trained in Sports Medicine
Dr. Frank Heckl is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine and arthroscopy at New Mexico Orthopaedics. Before joining New Mexico Orthopaedics in 1986, Dr. Heckl practiced with Albuquerque Orthopaedic Associates.
As an elite athlete in swimming, Dr. Heckl first gained respect for the field as a result of being treated by various orthopedists throughout the years. The science proved to be increasingly fascinating to him and resulted in a lifelong career choice. He has found special interest in arthroscopic procedures of the knee to the point where he has super-specialized in reconstructions of the ACL.
Dr. Heckl has a focused partnership with each of his patients in which he pledges to deliver the quality care that every one deserves in return for an active participation in each individual’s return to an active and healthy life.
He is also a faculty member of the New Mexico Orthopaedics Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Fellowship.
Dr. Heckl donated his time as a physician volunteer at the Summer Olympic Games in 1984. He has also served as a team physician for the USA National Swimming Team at the Drug Offensive International Swimming Championships in Australia and for the USA Swim Team at the Goodwill Games in Seattle and he served on the New Mexico Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness from 1988 to 1991.
In his free-time, Dr. Heckl is an avid golfer and enjoys spending time in Bible study. He can also claim the unique privilege and once-in-a-lifetime experience of once having operated on a cheetah at the Rio Grande Zoo in Albuquerque.
