Dr. John Franco is a sports medicine physician at New Mexico Orthopaedics. His focus is in knee, shoulder, hip and ankle arthroscopies, repair of articular cartilage injuries and minimally invasive surgery methods. He believes that orthopaedics has offered him the perfect opportunity to combine his backgrounds in mechanical engineering and kinesiology with his desire to interact with and help others on a daily basis.
Dr. Franco enjoys helping patients accept and understand their injuries, working with them through the recovery process. He utilizes non-operative approaches to recovery whenever possible to meet patient goals in a timely manner. When surgery is appropriate, Dr. Franco will use the most advanced, minimally invasive or arthroscopic techniques in order to correct ailments and return the patient to an active lifestyle as quickly as possible with minimal discomfort.
Dr. Franco has developed a special interest in adolescent injury prevention and joint cartilage repair and regeneration. He has contributed to the publication of several articles and research studies, and he continues to be very involved with the Santa Monica ACL Injury Prevention Project and is a proud member of the New Mexico Orthopaedics Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Fellowship.

He continues to work with the Albuquerque Isotopes AAA professional baseball team and is also proud to provide medical coverage for local high school sports teams.
Away from the office, Dr. Franco enjoys golf, tennis, running, hiking and skiing. Unquestionably, the most important part of his life is time spent enjoying the company of his two sons and his amazingly supportive wife.
