Dr. Joshua Carothers is a board-eligible orthopedic surgeon whose practice focuses on total knee and hip replacements at the acclaimed New Mexico Center for Joint Replacement Surgery, one of the Centers of Excellence at New Mexico Orthopaedic Associates.
While helping his father, Tom, who is also an orthopaedic surgeon, on a medical mission trip to Mexico, Dr. Carothers saw the healing work that his father was able to provide to the ailing and poverty-stricken people of the region. Although just a teenager at the time, he committed himself to the pursuit of a career in medicine, where he felt he would be able to minister to patients’ physical problems.
Dr. Carothers shares in the collective mindset demonstrated at New Mexico Orthopaedic Associates to treat each patient as an important individual. Being able to practice at Presbyterian Hospital, a facility founded on faith that shares his commitment to service-based medicine.
Tangible results are one of the joys associated with being an adult reconstruction surgeon, according to Dr. Carothers. He feels strongly that being able to restore pain-free mobility and increased quality of life to his patients is a blessing that he is both grateful and pleased to provide.
Dr. Carothers received academic and athletic awards throughout his college years, including graduating with honors in Environmental Science and first in his class in medical school. He also served as captain of the Men’s Swimming Team.
He is an outdoor enthusiast and especially enjoys skiing, golfing and camping. He and his family are delighted to be calling Albuquerque home.
