Dr. Emil Cheng is a board-certified physiatrist, dedicated to providing comprehensive conservative treatment for patients with neck and back pain. His practice focuses on functional restoration through physical rehabilitation, medication management and spinal injection procedures. He is skilled in treating patients with occupational and sports-related injuries, including joint and nerve disorders, as well as musculoskeletal diseases. In addition to electrodiagnostic testing, he is proficient in spinal interventional procedures, including fluoroscopically-guided spinal injections, discography, radiofrequency neurotomy and intradiscal electrothermal annuloplasty. Dr. Cheng is confident in the benefits and improvements that physiatry can provide to the majority of patients.
Before joining New Mexico Spine, Dr. Cheng was an assistant professor in the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Rush Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center, where he also had a conjoint appoint to the department of neurological surgery. Dr. Cheng practiced as an associate physician with the Chicago Institute of Neurosurgery and Neuroresearch and the CINN Institute of Spine Care.
Dr. Cheng has given many lectures and contributed to the publication of several articles and a book. He currently serves on the research committee and conducts spinal procedures workshops for PASSOR. He has also served as team physician for Gordon Technical High School in Chicago and a ringside physician for USA Amateur Boxing in Salt Lake City. He has also volunteered at the Park City Ski Resort Injury Clinic and the 2002 Winter Paralympics. Dr. Cheng enjoys a variety of activities, including golfing, skiing, hiking and mountain biking.
